Feeding my babies

I think I am going to make Tucker's baby food.

I bought a recipe book a couple of years ago called "Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfield. It is all about sneaky ways to disguise vegetables in your child's food. I had the best intentions but never really used that book until the other night. Madeline has GOT to eat more vegetables. She was a great eater up until about 2 years old. She would eat anything. I think at 2 kids realize that they have a choice. That they don't have to eat what you give them. So, anyway, now we are down to green beans as the only vegetable she will consistently eat and the rest we have to beg her to eat.

My friend Hannah has been making her little boy's baby food and it has worked out great for them. Pratt will eat just about anything and loves veggies like broccoli and cauliflower!

SO, I had a great idea. If I am going to have all of these purees around for Tucker anyway I should sneak some of these vegetables into Madeline's meals! Monday night I pureed broccoli and slipped it into my spaghetti sauce. She ate more spaghetti than I have seen her eat in a while! Tuesday night I made whole wheat pancakes with pureed carrots, pears, peaches and strawberries mixed in. She ate those too! I feel like, DUH! Why haven't I been doing this forever?!

Tucker is going to be starting on veggies over the next few weeks as he approaches 6 months old. I'm hoping this will be easy. So far I LOVE pureeing. It drowns out all of the noise around me. Can't hear the t.v. or anything. I hope to spend one evening a week making my purees and freezing them. I can give Tucker his vegetables and sneak Madeline's into our meals. So excited.

  1. and you call me a super mom??! you're pureeing (sp?) your kids' food! I have the book and I've got intentions, just haven't made it there yet. Maybe you'll be my inspiration. :-)
