Mother's Day

The other day, inspired by a facebook questionnaire a lot of my friends had filled out, I asked Madeline, "What is Mommy's favorite thing to do?" She said, "Clean the house." I wanted to cry.

I spend so much time trying to do fun things with her. I'm not a "messy mom"- the mom who whips out the finger paints, markers, and water toys or sand trays every day. Messes do freak me out...but we do a lot of other fun things. We go to the park 3 times a week most weeks. We play princess and read books all the time, we watch princess movies, we go to the Wunderplace, we visit Daddy at work. I feel guilty every time I walk away from Madeline to go and do something around the house. I was soooo hoping she would say that my favorite thing was to play with her, or hug her, or something...something other than clean house. At least she didn't say, "sit down, watch tv, feed Tucker and ignore me." That would have killed me.

I do spend a lot of time cleaning. Basically every moment that I am not nursing Tucker, rocking Tucker, bathing, or tending to Madeline during the day is spent cooking, cleaning, or putting something away. I know my husband will not believe this because he has survived on cereal and turkey sandwiches going on 3 months and our laundry just got put away last night (only thanks to my mom giving Madeline her bath and me ignoring Tucker's crying) but it is true. I did great the first week of our challenge and ran out the door to exercise when Tyler walked through the door but I didn't cook dinner that entire week, felt guilty about it, and haven't exercised since.

Hmmm. What was the point of this post...I have lost my train of thought in self pity...Oh yeah, Mother's Day. I am amazed by all of the mom's that I am blessed to call my friends. Most of you work AND have clean houses AND look great AND make time for yourselves, exercise, cooking, your children, your husbands, and laundry (and some of you even SEW too). I just want to say I am so impressed and amazed. I love and admire you. I hope to grow up and be just like you all some day because you are the real heroes in this world. And, I want a housekeeper so that Madeline can say that Mommy's favorite thing to do is play with her.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!
