officially old

I used to love to hear stories from my mom and grandmother about when they were "little." My grandmother would show me the jitterbug. My mom told me that she actually wore a poodle skirt- not just for halloween. Mom knew real hippies. Maw didn't have a t.v. It all seemed so different and unreal. So foreign from how we live now. So long ago.

A couple of days ago Madeline asked me, "Mommy, when you were little did you have Dora the Explorer?" I said no and just kind of laughed it off. That was cute. Didn't hurt too much. Dora is a relatively new cartoon. Next was, "Did you have Ni Hao Kai Lan?" Again, no. And then came the kicker..., "Did you have computers?"

Oh my gosh! We DIDN'T have computers!!! There is something BIG and COMMON that Madeline has that I did not have when I was little! It might as well have been a CAR that she asked about! Computers are so commonplace now. How did I grow up without a COMPUTER??

So, I'm old. I might as well have been born in 1899.
