So Madeline is learning about community this month. And neighborhoods. And community helpers and leaders. This week their lesson coincides with "drug free week."
Monday morning I got a text message from her teacher telling me that Madeline had shared with the entire class that her Daddy had run every single stop sign on their way to school. I think they had been discussing police officers and the law. Her teacher asked if he had slowed down really slow to make sure no cars were coming and Madeline said that no, he had not even slowed down.
So Tyler got in trouble.
Then Tuesday came. I went to the school to help in her classroom and arrived after they had been there for a couple of hours. They had been discussing drugs, alcohol, caffeine and talking about what drugs are. Her teacher kept looking at me and giggling every now and then. I finally got close enough to her to ask her what she was laughing at and she told me that Madeline had shared with the class that sometimes when I have friends over I drink a glass of wine. Her teacher asked if I finished off a whole bottle or just had a glass or two and Madeline said she had not seen me finish off a bottle so her teacher explained to her that sometimes adults have a glass of wine every now and then.
I told her teacher that Tyler and I must be her "shining star" parents! But that it could be worse...that at least Madeline wasn't telling them that her Daddy and I drink bottles of wine while driving while running stop signs!! At least we weren't THAT bad!
So who knows what today will bring. The police visited her school yesterday so I guess I am safe. I felt certain that after they heard about our drinking and law breaking from Madeline that they would be here knocking on my door!
